FREDERICK'S OF HOLLYWOOD 1947-1973 26 years of Mail Order Seduction
In honour of the special day of 'LURVE, I thought I would show you this little book. It is one of my favourite finds. Fredericks of Hollywood was and still is a mail order business that was started in the late 40s. Edited by Laura and Janusz Gottwald this book is jammed packed full of illustrations photographed directly from the Frederick of Hollywood catalogues. A fantastic reference for anyone interested in vintage fashion as well as the sociology of sex and relationships. One of the first pages says ' From night to day wear..... there are sections for underwear, bathing suites, sexy dresses and coats, jackets, wraps, flirty footwear and hosiery as well as bedroom apparel, negligees, and books on sex such as 'THE ART AND SCIENCE OF LOVE' to understanding men called 'THE INTELLIGENT WOMEN'S GUIDE TO MAN-HUNTING' and a book that is called 'BUMPS AND GRINDS' a 'hilarious drinking and stripping game' as well as the opportunity to buy a 'Sensual Water Bed'. All you need my little cupcakes for a lovely Valentine's day!!
p.s. There is also advice for all you guys and girls out there to......not to 'forget to wear your sheath' Oh my!!!
