Taking it easy today with this little 50s copy! Yesterday took it out of me and I'm just relaxing trying to get my 50s fabrics in order to make some more cushions.... I have a feeling that the Vintage Festival on the South Bank was a huge success.... I had to stay away toady not only cos I was knackered but also I would only have spent far too much money! I'm happy with the 50s fabric that I bought and the lovely tooled 70s bag that I got from 'RETROPOLITAN' a fabby little stall at the festival! One among MANY great and fantastic stalls!!!!..more to come!

Battle Proms

So.... a visit to the Battle Proms at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire on 23rd July 2011 was a great day out. A picnic with music that lead into an evening of spectacular fireworks and canon fire set to music!! I have seen some sights in my time but it was like a picnic city .... people who had definitely done this before had gazebos, full lighting (that was turned on when the sun went down) tables, chairs and you name everything you could imagine for a picnic in comfort. Philipa and I had two bags, one with food and drink, one with some blankets and a brolly each... fingers crossed... and for once it didn't rain all day!!

I guess it is called battle because it has lots of historical references IE the spitfire flying over, the French vs English officers from the Napoleonic Wars on horseback treating us to Calvary displays. All had authentic Antique costumes of the era depicting their rank ....also there were canons to be let off to the 1812 Overture, musket fire and various ladies and gentlemen walking around in historic costumes!

I would say it is like having a picnic, with classical music and suddenly Napoleon wonders by and a spitfire rolls overhead... there was about 7000 people there on Saturday all good natured fun.... to top it off there was food and fireworks.... the only trouble was finding our car afterwards and getting out of the grounds of Hatfield House. If you decide to go to one of these up and coming events just make sure that you have some kind of marker by which to find your cars ...... you might be needing to camp there otherwise as since some fields are turned into car parks there is no lighting and almost completely in the dark... at least we weren't the only ones looking for our car!!

Well its supposed to be a warm day... but always starts off cold so hence the footless tight!! Boo hiss!! But then this little vintage copy needed a little retro jacket! Although I did think that I looked like I should be a trapeze artist....?? Susan smiled and kind of agreed but I thought well lets put the picky in anyway, since I had traveled for 2 hours and loads of people must have seen me in it and thought... 'hmm I didn't know that the circus was in town....' hee hee!

One of my favourite prints as well as the collar detail! On a green theme I thought I would wear one of my Vintage Coro brooches!..... Liisa commented that the print had a modern twist to it but I considered the lining, the lace cover on the hem I would say it is definitely 70s! Hey little froggy!!

Funny how one piece can change an entire look.... well if it hadn't been for the 60s top this little outfit could have been perfect for wearing in a boudoir, Liisa mentioned that the trousers although nice could have gone down the pyjama route! Oh dear! Ha!

So it seems that many ladies in the late 60s and early 70s who owned these bark cloth Hawaiian dresses decided to cut them down... oh dear what a shame! But that hasn't stopped me from keeping an eye for these gorg prints! I have quite a few long and short!!

Well this is one of my favourite 50s dresses! The little ivory buckle and print! The first thing Liisa said was that she loved the print... I said ' what to make into a cushion' Ohhh sometimes I feel conflicted do I keep the dress as is or make it into a cushion.... ha ha only kidding couldn't cut this little lady!!
